USC junior running back LenDale White has announced that he will enter the NFL draft in April, skipping his senior season as Southern Cal. Despite being the second running back to the projected number one pick in the draft, Reggie Bush, White has had an outstanding career with USC.
White, who is 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, set a USC record with 57 touchdowns in his career. Unfortunately for White, he could not get the yard he needed to put Texas away in the Rose Bowl. It was hard for White to say goodbye to USC.
"I wouldn't say that it was a slam dunk" said White. "It definitely was hard giving up that dream because I won a lot of football games there."
Without Bush, White could have been a Heisman Trophy candidate next season. White had 26 touchdowns this season, including three touchdowns against Texas.
"We obviously hate to see LenDale go, but we understand and we wish him the best of luck. He had a great career at USC and was such an integral part of our program," said USC head coach Pete Carroll in a statement. "I think every player on our team, especially Reggie and Matt, would tell you that his presence was a key reason why our offense was so tough to stop. He provided the physical power and mentality that softened up defenses. And when he got near the goal line, you knew nothing would stop him from scoring."
There is a very good chance that White will be taken in the first round of the draft, possibly even in the top ten. Some people see White as somewhat of a future "Jerome Bettis" or a running back that can pound the ball. When he gets drafted may be based on how fast he is in the 40-yard run at the combine.
