San Francisco 49ers rookie tight end Vernon Davis broke his right leg Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, and will be out indefinitely. Davis was injured during the third quarter on a play where Eagles' defensive end Mike Patterson recovered a fumble and returned it 98 yards.

"I initially felt it while I was running," Davis said. "I was trying to tackle him, and I felt it pull, and then I pulled up. I didn't make any contact with him, I just felt it pull. That's when the crack must have gone through."

Davis only had five catches for 37 yards with a touchdown during his first three games. That success all came in the first game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals. Davis, a first-round draft choice, will still be a big part of the team's offense when he returns.
