The Philadelphia Eagles have signed veteran right tackle Jon Runyan to a three-year deal. Runyan, who is 32 years old, has been with the Eagles since 2000. He was offered a deal by the New York Jets, but decided to stay where he was comfortable.
"Six years ago ... I was in it to make a lot of money," Runyan said. "I have made my money. I understand where I am in my life and my family is important to me. That weighed a lot on my decision. I'm glad it's over with. It's been an interesting process, but we met somewhere in the middle and I think that both sides are happy with the situation."
Runyan thought that there was a good chance he would end up with the Jets after he did not see an offer from the Eagles.
"There is always that point," he said. "They came in with an offer and I hadn't had one from the Eagles. I didn't know whether this would be my only offer. If it was, then I would have to go play there. It was a tough decision. It got to a point where I went up there for a visit and on the way back I was thinking about whether I really wanted to be away from my family and miss all the moments."
Runyan has started 160 consecutive games over the past 11 years and has been very productive. He was originally a fourth-round pick from the Houston Oilers way back in 1996.
