The Minnesota Vikings have signed quarterback Mike McMahon to a contract, probably to be their backup quarterback. Brad Johnson will be the starter, and McMahon will be ready to come in if anything goes wrong. McMahon was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, since they signed quarterback Jeff Garcia as their new backup.

"It's a great opportunity for myself, a chance to learn from Brad and see how he prepares," McMahon said. "I'm very excited."

The Vikings also signed safety Tank Williams to a contract. The Vikings needed a new strong safety after Corey Chavous left to go to the St. Louis Rams. Williams has been with the Tennessee Titans the past four seasons.
