As Week 7 approaches, the quarterback situations around the league are getting more convoluted than ever before.

Marty: "No, Doc. Not me! The "other" me! The one up on stage singing Johnny B. Goode."
Doc Brown: "Great Scott! If they succeed, you'll miss the lightning bolt at the clock tower, you won't get back to the future, and we'll have a major paradox!"
Marty: "A paradox? You mean one of those things that can destroy the universe."
Doc Brown: "Precisely!"

Yes, it feels like Back to the Future after what we've seen the past few weeks. Some quarterbacks are being brought back from the past, while other quarterbacks are being jettisoned into the future. And, to make things even crazier, the two teams drafting the highest quarterbacks in this year's draft -- the Oakland Raiders and the Cleveland Browns -- may be furthest away from feeding their youngsters to the proverbial wolves.

With all of the questions regarding starting quarterbacks, I'd like to go over who will (or should) be "in" and "out" for Week 7. This not only affects fantasy rosters around the country, but how an offense will run their gameplan this Sunday. After all, what happens on the field is more important that a fantasy game, right?

Kurt Warner: Game-Time (IN)

Kurt Warner
Warner is still a game-time decision. If Rattay starts, Warner could still spell him.
This past Sunday, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner tore a ligament in his left elbow. There's no way he would be playing this Sunday, or for the rest of the season perhaps, if the injury involved his right (and throwing) elbow. After things didn't look too good following last week's game, Warner was able to step onto the field Thursday and practice with the team. He is currently wearing a brace on his elbow, and if he plays, the injury won't get any worse.

With Anquan Boldin returning after three weeks of absence, the Cardinals offense has a chance to reach another new height with Warner under center. With the Seattle Seahawks barely keeping a hold on the NFC West, Arizona doesn't have the luxury of giving Warner a few weeks off while a guy like Tim Rattay or the newly signed Tim Hasselbeck tries to operate the offense. Warner is far from a lock this Sunday, but when my predictions column is online tomorrow, my pick will be made under the assumption that Warner is starting.

Vince Young: Game-Time (OUT)

Vince Young
Vince Young may be electric, but risking a severe quadriceps injury wouldn't be worth it.
Unlike Warner's injury, Vince Young's injury could get terribly, terribly worse if he plays this Sunday against the Houston Texans. Young looks forward to playing on the road against Houston due to his local ties and college career around the area, but I don't see Jeff Fisher risking the season for one start here. Considering the Titans are facing an off-and-on Texans team too, Tennessee has a legitimate shot of sneaking out of Houston with a victory under veteran quarterback Kerry Collins.

Young has been throwing in practice, but he hasn't run at all. Fisher has clearly stated that it's not out of the question that Young is inserted into the starting lineup Sunday without having practiced during the week, simply because he had two games worth of experience against Houston last season. The Titans' defense has looked strong this season, as they only allowed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to score 13 points on the road last week. The AFC South is not a division you want to fall behind in, but that's exactly what would happen if Young sustains a more severe injury playing this week. Therefore, for the time being, I'm banking on him sitting on the bench, with the possibility of playing if Collins really starts to play horribly.

Alex Smith: Backup (OUT)

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was back practicing in pads this week, but after evaluating him and veteran backup Trent Dilfer, head coach Mike Nolan has decided to give Dilfer the start. Smith is anxious to get back into action and help a 49ers offense that hasn't done much of anything the entire season. Nolan was quoted saying he doesn't think Smith's confidence is where it needs to be yet:

"I'm not certain that the confidence in Alex, or my confidence in watching him, is where it needs to be," Nolan said. "I know he wants to play in the worst way, but I think he understands what I mean."

Dilfer in a 49ers uniform continues to be bad news for a sluggish offense. Smith may not be able to light it up, but Nolan's not making his decision based on who gives him the best chance to win in the long-run. Having Smith enter a game without being back at full strength could maximize the turnovers, although Dilfer hasn't done a great job minimizing them.

Marc Bulger: Starter (IN)

Marc Bulger
Bulger hopes to prevent the Rams from going to 0-7.
After a few weeks with Gus Frerotte in at starting quarterback, the St. Louis Rams are turning back to starting quarterback Marc Bulger in hopes that the team can pick up their first victory of the season. Bulger hasn't been healthy all season, and with the amount of hits he was taking prior to being benched, Bulger needed an extended period of time to rest his ribs. On top of Bulger returning, receivers Isaac Bruce and Dane Looker should also be back in the lineup for the Rams, while Steven Jackson is officially going to sit out again. Bulger has received favorable reviews in practice from head coach Scott Linehan, and could play spoiler to a slumping Seattle Seahawks team.

Kyle Boller: Starter (IN)

Steve McNair may faithfully still be the Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback, but if Kyle Boller continues to win, who can argue against him remaining in the lineup? Ravens head coach Brian Billick has confirmed that Boller will start for the second straight week as McNair continues to rest his back. There's a chance that Boller will also start next week, because Billick is desperately calling for the bye week to get here as soon as possible in two weeks.

Baltimore is getting very lucky with their schedule. Their offense has not been sharp overall, yet because they've faced two of the worst offenses in the NFL over the past two weeks, they've been able to survive without much concern over the quarterback position. The same may hold true this week as the defense tries to handle the inexperienced Buffalo Bills offense. But, what's going to happen with the Ravens' quarterback situation when they face teams like the Eagles, Steelers, or even the Browns again?
